The European Commission will abandon several proposed regulations from its 2025 work program, including the ePrivacy Regulation proposal, Politico reports. The dismissal of the proposed law to govern third-party cookie use comes after EU institutions made no progress in negotiating the regulation in recent years. Additionally, the Commission will also move on from the proposed Framework for Financial Data Access.

U.K. Information Commissioner John Edwards issued a statement on the progress of the Data Use and Access Bill after it passed in the House of Lords. Edwards called for further clarification on certain children's privacy provisions and supported parliamentarians' calls to draft subsequent legislation that will direct the ICO to develop codes of practice for automated decision-making and AI as well as educational technology.

U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit Judge Gabriel Sanchez evaluated Meta's proposed USD725 million settlement over alleged nonconsensual data sharing with Cambridge Analytica, Bloomberg reports. Some members of the class-action lawsuit opposed the settlement, claiming the agreement does not change the company's privacy practices or prevent the company from additional user privacy harms.

In an op-ed for Lawfare, Atlantic Council Europe Center senior fellow Kenneth Propp discussed "new procedural possibilities for class-action-style litigation" to challenge EU data transfers to the U.S. Propp indicated the Representative Actions Directive, which creates a common framework across the 27 EU member states for civil society organizations to "vindicate consumer interests," could broaden the "potential scope of damages by allowing many individuals' interests to be consolidated in a single action" for possible privacy damages, for instance.
